Semi-plenary lecturer: Xiong Zhang

Dr. Xiong Zhang was awarded his PhD from the Dalian University of China in 1992, and is currently a professor and the head of the Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics Engineering, School of Aerospace Engineering, Tsinghua University. He also serves as the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Mechanics and Materials in Design, and editorial board member of several other international journals.
His research interests focus on the numerical modelling of extreme events with extreme material deformation. He published a MPM book with Academic Press in 2016, and developed a 3D explicit material point method code, MPM3D, which has been applied in hypervelocity impact, penetration, blast, slope failure, metal cutting and fluid-structure interaction problems. He was supported by the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, the Ministry of Education of China, and was listed as one of the 2015 and 2017 Most Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier.
